Cookies are yummy, but those aren’t the type of cookies I’m taking about.
I’m talking about the type of cookies that are a metaphor for non-monetary compensation. Something a client gives you, that you can’t spend, but it still feels pretty good.
One of the best cookies to collect is a fantastic review. That’s a cookie that can lead to more cookies (and actual money). But sometimes, a cookie can be as simple as a few words in an IM. Check out the one I received from a client last week.
That’s the kind of cookie that makes you want to work even harder to please the client.
When you’re just starting out looking for work after 50, collect as many cookies as you can. And if you’re a client hiring one of us, don’t be a cheap skate. Hand out cookies like they matter. Because they do.
Until next time.
